I heard in a radio sweeper today that Mr. Levin looks forward to August 2nd. He says it will be our new July 4th. I couldn't agree more.
When Obama was first elected, I was disappointed, but not that much. I didn't vote for the "R" candidate either. I thought Obama might have a chance, heal an old racial wound, maybe be a good Clinton or JFK and have the good they do be only slightly outweighed by the damage they inflict.
I just don't get all the fear of nuclear power and paranoia about the crippled Japanese nuclear power plant. My basic conclusion is: if a power plant can endure such a powerful natural disaster and not immediately collapse and explode, then I consider it a pretty safe technology. We need more nuclear power, not less.
I came across this slashdot comment that sums it up rather well using known facts in comparison to the Deep Water Horizon explosion:

Deepwater Horizon - caused by cost cutting and ignoring safeguards.
Recently I've been watching New York Now, the PBS show on NY politics. I think it's an interesting show; no more elietist than your average PBS show, and the only one I know about that actually follows the politics of one of the most powerful states in the union.
Their show from last week had a good analysis of Gov. Cuomo's proposed budget:
Did he really escape life without any serious accusations or scandals? He was, a Presbyterian minister, after all.

We have reached the limit of TCP/IP and what it can do. We need to develop a new transport layer protocol to deliver lethal force to the end user. Proper checks and balances need to be maintained to avoid abuse, but the applications are many, from spam deletion to mass genocide due to flame wars. Lethal force over IP, or LF/IP needs to become a reality.

This is an article I posted to the CSH web servers back in the days of 2002. I've lost the original copy, and since geocities was decommissioned in 2009, I had to go to the internet archive to get a working copy.
I've reread the entire thing. The text is somewhat sophomoric, but other than that I stand by every word. I might make another revision to clean up the language. The main thesis is the "direct marketing" model is anti-American, and anti-Capitalism.

A love letter is an intense, personal affair. It consumes your mind and frustrates your vocabulary as you attempt to distill the most ancient and potent feelings into words. It's a personal communication, from one to his beloved, not to be seen or shared beyond the secret world that exists within true love. It's poetic, terse, sappy, slightly gay, allusive, obtuse, opaque, obsequious and clairvoyant, and most certainly not funny. I assure you, this is not a love letter (although it did have its knees removed).
